Biography
Hi, I'm Lauren McConnell
An International Business with Japanese and Business Analytics Graduate from DCU.
With a background in business and languages, my journey with Business Analytics began only last year. However, it has sparked my interest. One of my goals is to introduce more women to the interesting facets of Business Analytics!
I gained an interest in business analytics through a desire to learn coding. It was during my year abroad in Japan that I developed an interest in analytics. So, I began research into Python in my free time. I had done some courses in business analytics in my first few years in DCU but it had revolved around learning Tableau and Excel. In my final year I was given the opportunity to specialise in Business Analytics, which involved us learning Python and SQL among other things and I jumped at the opportunity. I look forward to gaining valuable insights from data and using my diverse experiences to improve decision making.
Key Skills
SQL
Intermediate knowledge in the use of SQL to manipulate and display data. Advanced understanding of relational databases. Ability to create tables with foreign keys along with displaying specific queries using Joins.
Power BI
Advanced practical use of cleaning and displaying tools in PowerBI. Completed a workshop in Microsoft, gaining valueable insights into the various tools and processes.
Communication
Extremely good proven communication skills. Fluent in English, Japanese and Irish. Fast adaptor to new and varied environments.
